Personal Data Project
‘Co-Star’ is a popular astrology app that provides its users with a unique quote every day that supposedly reflects the user’s current life or gives them relevant advice. For this personal data assignment, I have kept a track of the daily quotes that my co-star has given me over a period of 1.5 weeks. I have also maintained a personal diary during this time period, writing a 1-paragraph-long entry every night.
For my final data representation, I have created a comic strip of my daily life, incorporating real life events from my diary alongside my co-star quotes to weave together a comprehensive narrative in the form of a comic strip. Each individual illustration in the comic represents the events of that day, alongside the co-star quote for that day written right below it.
By mapping my co-star quotes to my daily life, I have analyzed my personal astrological data to a much more extensive and practical extent than ever before. Making this comic has allowed me to see myself and the events of my life through a critical lens. As opposed to the visualization best practice of portraying the data in a simple and digestible format, I chose to follow a more creative and visually-stimulating format. When representing this kind of qualitative data, a comic was a necessary means to tell a story by weaving a narrative, something that simple data representation could not have accomplished.
